Behind the pages

SEELD·BOOKS / ISRAEL

Small in size. Thoughtful on every page.

SEELD-BOOKS is an independent children’s publisher in Israel, led by Shmuel Marciano. We started with coloring books for ages 2–8 because a child who colors also asks — and we wanted the true answer to be right there on the page. Every scene carries one short fact, checked against a source; each book’s source list is kept on file and published on its book page. Reading books for children are on the way. Every book gets its own world, its own language and its own place on the shelf.

How our coloring books are made

This process describes our coloring books. Each reading book will share its own production details on its book page.

01

It starts with the child

Every book starts with a simple question: what does a child this age want to color, and what will they ask along the way? From there we choose the theme, the scenes, and the size of lines and spaces that suits a small hand.

02

Research and fact-checking

We study every subject: what it looks like, where it belongs and what is true about it. Every scene gets one short fact, checked against a source: a museum, a university, a space agency or, in our Bible books, the text itself. A source list is kept for each book and published on its page when the source file is available.

03

Every page is planned

From the research we write a precise brief for each scene: who and what appears in it, which details must be right and what does not belong in the picture. At the same time we set the page itself: a large page, one scene per sheet, a blank reverse behind it and the fact beneath the picture.

04

Creation and production

Only now is the illustration created, following the written brief, with digital illustration tools, including AI. From there it is traced into clean print lines and typeset by the publisher.

05

Review and approval

Each illustration is checked against the research. One that does not match is rejected and made again. Before the book is published, it is reviewed once more in full, page by page.
